The Siege of Yorktown was the last battle of the Revolutionary war. It was in some eyes the first naval defeat for the British in that they lost a 6-gun armed schooner, HMS Diane, to colonial rebels under the command of Johnny Stark. Among other events, the bridge is the site of a 21-gun musket and cannon salute each year at 6:00 a.m. on the anniversary of the battles, April 19.
